A young Portuguese Water Dog starting a new life

Past the two month mark!

Hey everyone!

We are so excited to be 2 months post Mylo’s surgery! His adjustment to his new tripawd life has been going really well, with only one minor hiccup!

A week ago we noticed that Mylo was limping just a little bit on his back right paw. Being overly concerned parents we took him right into the vet. Whenever we palpated his paw on that foot he would try and nip at us so we figured there was something wrong with his nails or toes. However, when we got to the vet they told us they thought something was wrong with his back (lumbar region of the spine). The pain was localized over one of the discs so they said it could be a ruptured disc- or the beginnings of one. Mylo had been playing really hard at the dog park the last few days so we think he must’ve overestimated his own abilities (puppies will be puppies!).

So, per the doctor’s orders Mylo is now on a very restricted movement regime- either being in his kennel or gated off in our kitchen (where there are no pieces of furniture for him to jump up on). Of course being a 5 month old puppy Mylo is certain that this is the worst thing that could possibly happen! He just wants to jump and play but we want to make sure that we don’t cause any further damage to whatever is going on with his spine! We are a week into his ‘captivity’ and needless to say he is a little stir crazy. His new favorite past  time is staring out the kitchen window and watching all the neighbors walk by- what a tough life!

Other than that Mylo has been great! He has been growing quite a bit and has almost lost all his baby teeth. There is dog days at the pool in a couple weeks so we are very excited about getting some swimming in- he is a water dog after all!

  1. Super Stu!

    Hi triPaWD Mylo!
How lovely to meet you! Our Stewie boy had his front left leg removed on July 10th due to Osteosarcoma. Mylo could join Stewie and TT Bailey in their Tripawd Twin’s club! We could even rename it as the triPaWD Twin club!

You really had a go of it in the first few weeks didn’t you?! You poor little thing! You are so lucky to have found your Mum & Dad, ’cause there’s not a lot of people out there that would choose a trPaWD life for themselves (it’s a really big, tough decision right?!) never mind their pup… so good for you guys!

We’re really glad you made it through your inititial recovery period with no major problems. What a good strong puppy you are Mylo! But You do remember that it’s only been two months though right little fella?! You still have a lot of toning to do before you can fly with the big fellas! It was only a couple of days ago, that I let Stewie play for a little while with an Australian Shepard and boy could he fly! Stewie tried to keep up but I could see that the playing was a little much for his front leg, so I had to have him lay down for a while. Mind you, Stewie is a large 7 year old Bernese/Rotty cross, so compared to Mylo, he’s a giant dinosaur! Ha!

You really are a handsome fella Mylo and boy oh boy, is your fur ever growing back quickly! You’re going to be a little firecracker for your pawrents aren’t you?! Keep up the good work little Man, you’re doing incredibly well!

    Sloppy kisses from Stewie👅🐾
& all the very best from his adoring pack,
Petra, Paul, & his feline siblings, Mr. Spike, Chester Molester & Miss Lily 🐾🐾🐾❤️.

p.s. I’m glad your breeders had enough decency to give you back your money. Keep well.🙂

I don’t know how I missed your blog before. Mylo is a cutie. I love the photo of him and the poodles! So glad he is being more puppy. And, I notice you have all nonshedding dogs. Good move!
My tripawd ( she’s Stewie’s TT Bailey) is a 9 year old Rottweiler who has osteosarcoma with a rear amp. Not a puppy at all! I don’t have any advice since our circumstances are so different, but I love seeing him and hearing he is doing well!

Oh you CUTIE! I just want to smooooooch you and I have no problem hanging with you while you are captive and stuck inside 🙂

I’m glad you are on the mend. It’s not easy keeping an active puppy mellow enough to heal but your humans are doing a pretty good job of it. Keep us posted OK?
